Feed the Homeless at Faith Mission

Faith Mission is dedicated to serve those without food or shelter. Under the operation of Lutheran Social Services of Central Ohio, Faith Mission has services at many places in and around Columbus, Ohio. Faith Mission on 8th Avenue, located at 599 E. 8th Avenue, serves up to 95 men each night where COBCA is associated since 2006.

COBCA’s journey began with serving food to around 100 homeless in 2006 and carried forward to double the effort this year (2007). This year COBCA volunteers have served more than 200 people with great food. Our volunteers have clocked more than 200 man-hours of service this year. The menu include baked chicken, green bean casserole, fried rice, mashed potato with gravy, brownies etc. It was a great experience to see the new light glimmer in their eyes as they felt the warmth and compassion that provided them with a much needed meal. It was evident that the souls needed nourishment as much if not more than their bodies. COBCA family will continue to engage in similar community services in future.

An evening with Sunil Gangopadhyay

Prolific writer Sunil Gangopadhyay visited our city of Columbus during the first week of July’ 2007. We availed this opportunity to have him among us for an evening. Sunilda is an icon of Bengali heritage and culture and needs no introduction to our community. Poetry is his first love and started his journey as a novelist with his book "Atmoprakash". He has written (and still going strong) over 200 books of travelogues, children's fiction, short stories, features, and essays. His well known pen-names are: Nil Lohit, Sanatan Pathak, and Nil Upadhyay. In the "adda" Sunilda shared some interesting stories about his novels which many were unaware of. Attendees were fortunate to listen to the recitation of bengali poetry from his collection. More than 60 autographed books written by Sunil-da were sold to the readers during the occasion. The function ended with a complimentary dinner with Sunilda in a restaurant.
